The Rev. Linda Northcraft became the Rector of St. John’s in September, 1997, moving here from the Diocese of Maryland. She was born and raised in Cumberland, Maryland, was graduated from Frostburg State College and received a Masters in Education from Western Maryland College. After teaching for 16 years in Cumberland she entered Berkley Divinity School at Yale University. She received her M. Div. from Yale in 1987, and received the Charles E. Mersick Prize for Preaching at graduation. Following graduation she served in three parishes in Maryland. While there she served on the diocesan Peace and Justice Committee, the Commission on Ordained Ministry, the Commission on the Episcopate, Diocesan Council, the Music and Liturgy Committee and the Racism Committee. In the Diocese of Michigan she has been on, and was chair of, the Commission on Ministry, the Becoming the Household of God committee and the Liturgy Committee for Diocesan Convention.

The Rev. Jeffernell Howcott, our Deacon, was ordained in 1982. A graduate of Ohio State University, Jeffernell received her master’s from the University of Detroit and then taught in the Detroit public school system and was a special education consultant for a total of 36 years. She joined the staff of St. John’s in 2001. In 2003 she was honored with a “recognition of her ministry in the tradition of St. Stephen” by the North American Association for the Diaconate. Only 65 deacons of the approximately 2400 active deacons in the U.S. and Canada have received this distinction. Jeffernell also serves as the Archdeacon of the Diocese of Michigan.

The Rev. Deacon Tim Spannaus, with his wife Collette, joined St. John's in 2001. Prior to coming to St. John's, Tim was installed as Deacon at Calvary Lutheran Church in Southfield (now closed) on Ascension Day, 1996. Tim had also served at Calvary as assisting minister, lay reader and chairman of the Worship and Music Committee, in addition to congregation president. In 2006, Tim resumed the diaconate at St. John's. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Illinois in Urbana and a Ph.D. from Wayne State University. Tim is on the faculty of WSU, in Instructional Technology, where he teaches graduate courses in interactive technologies for learning. His sons, Adam and Nathan, live in New York City and Boston, respectively.
