One of the most frequent phrases people will use when describing St. John’s is that it is like belonging to a family. And as a family, we love to get together in many different ways.

Some activities are geared to people under a “certain age,” like the men’s and women’s softball teams. Many are intergenerational. And everyone will agree that St. John’s has some of the best cooks in southeast Michigan! Here are a few of the ways that we enoy each other’s company.
Athletics We have a men’s softball team and a women’s softball team, both of which play in the spring and early summer in a church league. All are welcome to join regardless of athleticism.
The Antique Show This is St. John’s oldest continuing fundraiser; the 2008 Antique Show will be the 44th annual show. Lots of people, from the youth to our senior parishioners enjoy working the show, whether it be in the kitchen, serving food in the “restaurant,” selling jams, jellies and more in the Vicar’s Pantry, or working in the parking lot, this two-day affair should be on your list of things to attend! Profits from the show are used for the upkeep of our professional kitchen and for other needed expenses. In 2003 the Library was refurbished using Antique Show funds.
Break Bread Together These are monthly small group dinners. Eight people, whether they are coupled or single, get together for four months for good food and fellowship. In this intimate setting, it is easier to get to know each other. After four months the groups change.
Coffee Hour After the 10:30 service on Sundays we gather in the narthex to catch up with each other. Each week different people and committees act as hosts and hostesses.
Flower Delivery A dedicated group of people deliver altar flowers to the sick and homebound parishioners following the service each week.
Nonsense Committee Events These fun activities run the gamut, from trips to the Cranbrook Science Center, to attending area plays, to potluck suppers at church, to Square Dances, and many other events throughout the year.
Welcoming Ministry Fulfilling the needs of Pastoral Care and Fellowship, this committee meets and greets newcomers before and after the service to welcome them and answer questions they might have about our church.
